After nine years as its Director, Hugo Meijer (CERI, Sciences Po – CNRS) is stepping down and will assume the role of Founding and Honorary Director of the European Initiative for Security Studies.

Since founding the EISS in 2017, Hugo has worked tirelessly to build, expand and diversify what is today Europe's largest community of security studies scholars. The EISS has convened annual conferences across the continent — in Stockholm, Thessaloniki, Prague, Barcelona, Berlin, Lisbon and Paris — as well as summer schools for early-career researchers in Stockholm and Berlin, helping to foster the next generation of scholars and to strengthen collaboration across Europe. It has also organised policy workshops in Brussels and numerous online events in partnership with institutions around the world.

An inclusive community of security studies scholars from a wide range of countries, working on a plurality of topics and employing diverse approaches — a community that continues to grow, foster intellectual exchange, and strive for excellence. Hugo Meijer, on the EISS

Through his vision, dedication and leadership, that ambition has become a reality, making the EISS a vibrant and welcoming network that has made a lasting contribution to the field of security studies in Europe. The EISS extends its deepest gratitude to Hugo for his outstanding leadership and invaluable contributions, and is delighted that he will remain closely involved as its Founding and Honorary Director.

The EISS will now be led jointly by Chiara Ruffa (CERI, Sciences Po) and Moritz Weiss (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München), who have been appointed as the organisation's new Co-Directors. More on their ambitions and plans for the EISS will follow shortly.

In addition, two longstanding members of the EISS team, Arthur Laudrain and John Helferich, join the Board after many years of service. They bring their wealth of experience and expertise to the organisation's leadership and will continue in their functional responsibilities, as Technology and Events coordinators respectively.

The EISS also warmly thanks Sarka Kolmasova and Marco Wyss, who are stepping down from the Board, for their dedicated service and their contributions to the organisation.
